There’s no avoiding the fact that healthcare in the United States is broken. But on a more fundamental level, the approach to practicing medicine has all-too-often been placing the cart before the horse. Clinic+ is a national chain offering general medical care, but we go beyond the usual physical approach to healthcare.

Given that up to 90% of doctor’s visits are for stress-related ailments (with patients being sent on their way with no effective, tangible long-term solutions), there is vast room for improvement of both diagnosis and treatment.

The “plus” in Clinic+ is the mind-factor. More precisely, it is the combination of mind and body, which we believe the evidence overwhelmingly shows is the most important and fundamental consideration when it comes to one’s physical health and general well-being.

An unavoidable fact of life is that no matter who you are or where you come from, our time on earth is inherently difficult in one way or another. However, its challenges don’t exert ultimate authority–it’s your response does.

In the noise of everyday living, it’s easy to lose sight of this simple yet profound fact:

Our physical health begins in the mind.

Often overlooked, the importance of positive social engagement and a stable, substantial source of meaning and purpose cannot be overstated. Others can make hard times much more bearable, and having a reason to get out of bed in the morning both do wonders for both our mental and physical vitality.

The majority of visits doctor’s offices could be mitigated by attending to a multitude of factors within our control. In addition to an overall appraisal of any underlying mental health disorders, stress management is one of the most foundational aspects of our overall well-being.

By cutting down on our exposure to (or engagement with or internalization of) stressors, we instantly improve a whole host of cognitive factors like sleep quality, concentration, mood, anxiety and depression.

These in turns affect the physical, such as blood pressure, endocrine function, and digestion.

You can’t talk about physical and mental health without first touching both nutrition and sleep. Our bodies need the right kind of fuel to operate optimally mentally and physically, and sleep can be thought of as the thing that really binds everything else together.

Thus, poor sleep or lack of sufficient nutrients, no matter how healthy you are in every other area, will eventually wreak havoc on your whole system.

Additionally, analysis of a full blood work panel will identify any underlying deficiencies so that can be corrected through diet, supplements or even hormone therapy.
